Mom, dad, teen and grandpa plus two large dogs decided to relocate from Woodstock, Ontario to sunny Alberta. They wanted to be in one of Calgary’s bedroom communities, with good proximity to work near the Calgary airport. Their criteria also included a main-floor bedroom and full bath for grandpa; private space for their teen; a big, fenced yard for the dogs and a large garage for their vehicles. Nice to haves included a nearby high school, and a mature, treed community.
I started by reviewing the communities of interest to them – Okotoks, Cochrane, Langdon, Strathmore, Chestermere, Airdrie and mature communities in the southern portion of Calgary – providing information on community amenities, feel, commuting and what they could get for their money. We dropped a few communities based on this information and MLS listings review. With Dad in town and the rest of the family on the phone, we then viewed about 10 properties over the course of two days in Langdon, Chestermere, Airdrie and Okotoks. The top two choices were located in Langdon and Airdrie. While we were at a second viewing of the Langdon listing an offer was made on it. We added ours, but were unwilling to get into a bidding war and ended up walking away. Instead, we offered on the Airdrie home and got it. I’m pleased to say that during the property inspection we came to realize that it was an even more solid home than we’d initially assumed with very high-quality recent upgrades throughout. Not to mention a high school just a few blocks away and a beautiful pond across the street.
It was a real thrill to finally meet the whole family on closing day and see their expressions when all but Dad saw their new home for the first time!
A solid, and beautifully renovated two-story home in the established and sought-after community of Thorburn, Airdrie.
